History

S.H. Kress & Co. Building

At 811 North Franklin Street stands one of Tampa's most remarkable architectural landmarks: the former S.H. Kress & Co. five-and-dime. Completed in 1929, the four-story building recalls an era when Franklin Street was the heart of Tampa's shopping district, and even a modest variety store could be housed in a building of extraordinary grandeur.
